What Is Aquaponics?

It’s a way to garden in your backyard, using a small amount of space, almost no water, in the EASIEST possible way (the Aquaponic Way!)

MicroSystem aquaponic garden in full bloom1-575px

(Above) A Micro System 64 garden in full bloom. Notice the anise, parsley, taro, kale, chard, 3 types of basil, leeks, and green onions. Also the edible marigold flowers, cilantro, mustard greens, mint, and bok choy. Also the pineapple and banana plants (Yeah!). Also some other things I don’t know the names of because I don’t do the gardening. This is because my wife Susanne is The Plant Lady and Head Gardener, and I’m The Plumber. And (of course), several varieties of lettuce! The number of plants this 64-square-foot aquaponic garden holds would require around 800 square feet in a soil garden. That’s if your landlord lets you dig up the backyard (LOL!).

What is the first thing you think of when you think about gardening? The main thing I remember (from my days as an organic soil gardener) is the backache I got from pulling weeds. What’s the one thing I appreciate the most about an aquaponic garden? That there are no weeds, ever!

It’s easy to get started gardening the EASY Way, and economical too! Click here for more information on our “Aquaponics The EASY Way” E-book, which shows you how to build your own aquaponic garden for as little as $100.

These simple and economical gardens are a great way to get started in organic aquaponics. You can grow in one of these gardens even if you live in an apartment or condo. You can put it outdoors during the warmer months so it gets natural sunlight, then bring it indoors during the cold months and keep growing under artificial lighting.

Here are some links to articles about backyard aquaponic gardens we’ve published. Please send in the story of your backyard aquaponic garden (with photos, of course!) if you would like to be included in one of these articles in the future:

MS-96-1

(Above) A rare Micro System “96” aquaponic garden; this owner only had room for 3/4 of a Micro System 128 garden in his suburban side yard. In fact, his lot was so tight that he put his fish tank on the other side of the house and ran the plumbing underneath it to the troughs! You can put your backyard garden nearly anywhere!

A Friendly Testimonial:

Hi Tim, My son, Carl and I attended the training in Texas this year. Just to give you an update. The Sunday after the training, I was coming home from the church I pastor and passed by a co-op that has several greenhouses out front that seemed not to be in use anymore. I drove through to check them out and they were not in use.

A couple of months later,.....we are now the owners of the 7 greenhouses and all that comes with them! We were able to purchase them all for only $2800. My son and I begin deconstructing them on Thursday.

I'm attaching a couple of photos for you to look at them. They have propane heaters, roll up sides, boxes and lights for electricity, fiberglass front and rear walls, and a lot of odds and ends that I believe will come in handy.

I am so glad we listened when you spoke on ways to find greenhouses without spending a fortune. It has been tempting to just "jump in" but I'm glad we waited.

Thank you and many blessings, Rob Rolison

(Below) About $50,000 worth of greenhouses and equipment that Rob Rolison and his son Carl picked up for $2,800 after we explained how to do so in our March 2016 Texas 5-day training. They're going to disassemble them and reassemble at their farm. If they'd bought them new, they be at zero now; another way to look at this is that they have $47,200 to spend on the aquaponics systems to go inside their greenhouses.
